The world premiere of the single-screen version of Isaac Julien’s Once Again... (Statues Never Die) features at the the 75th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival.
In his latest work, Julien revisits themes addressed in his groundbreaking film Looking for Langston, 1989 (which won the TEDDY award at the 1989 Berlinale), and continues his exploration of the queer subculture of the Harlem Renaissance. Examining the contributions of philosopher and cultural critic Alain Locke, the 'Father of the Harlem Renaissance,' Julien invites a critical conversation about material culture from Africa and its influence on the Black cultural movement and European Modernism.
'It's uncanny and fitting to show both "Looking for Langston" and "Once Again" where I hope art and film can help replenish the soul' – Isaac Julien
Premiering Wednesday 19 February at 9:30pm

Part of an Isaac Julien double feature with Looking for Langston
