Created in collaboration with some of China's leading artistic voices, Ten Thousand Waves (2010) is a monumental video installation that stages a polyphony of actors, places and periods in a tribute to Chinese culture. The original inspiration for the work was the Morecambe Bay tragedy of 2004, in which 23 Chinese cockle-pickers died. At the crossroads of calligraphy, cinema and various mythologies, this masterpiece from the Collection addresses the issues of displacement and immigration.
