Dinos and Jake Chapman, Alex Hartley, Abigail Lane, Chris Ofili, Hadrian Pigott
Dinos & Jake Chapman, currently exhibiting in Germano Celant’s Venice Biennale, will present a work which has never before been seen in Britain. Their much awaited solo exhibition in New York at the Gagosian Gallery also opens in September and will coincide directly with both the London group shows, while next year sees the inclusion of their work in the new Berlin Biennale.
Alex Hartley has been developing an entirely new body of work which follows on from his earlier, better known images exploring the relationship between space and architecture. His contribution to Minor Sensation will introduce an element of this new work which will then be showcased in a solo exhibition at the gallery immediately following the group show.
Abigail Lane, currently exhibiting in Harald Szeeman’s Lyon Biennale, investigates a series of surreal kitchen dramas in the first of a new collection of photo based works involving mystery and Diorama. This series will be seen further at her solo show running simultaneously at Galerie Chantal Crousel in Paris and an important exhibition of her work will open at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in Spring next year.
A new and exuberant large scale painting in the Captain Shit series by Chris Ofili heralds his touring exhibition from Southampton City Art Gallery in Spring 1998. Ofili also has a solo show opening at Contemporary Fine Arts in Berlin in October and there are plans to bring the Southampton show to a major venue in London.
Hadrian Pigott resurrects childhood dreams of motorbikes and the antics of their riders with his work Adventures in Speed BMW R90S 67bhp/125mph. Blurring the boundary between replica and full scale fantasy, the elusive motorbike goes nowhere - fast. He will be showing new work in group shows in Berlin and Brussels, concurrent to the shows in London.
